Expectations

A wonderful friend gave me a leather bound pink devotion book chocked full of inspiration and truth. Today as I picked it up to see what GOD had for me to learn I did not know it was going to really inspire me as it did.  Lately, it seems we are all busy with back to school, football games, and other activities. Our friends need us even in the midst of the hustle and bustle. Women have a tendency to want their friends to be perfect.  I had to do some thinking on that topic. The devotion was correct we are to hard on one another.   The phrase that hit me is we expect far more from a friend than any human can give.  Wow, we have high expectations!

Are you expecting more than someone can give you?  Are they equipped to give you what you think you need from them?  We are all made very different spouses, girlfriends, parents and the list continues. Those differences draw us to the people in our lives because they are qualities on most occasions we do not have in our self.  Soak on that thought.  Does your husband give you the empathy you need?  Is your girlfriend dependable and timely?  Are your parents very affectionate?  When someone in your life does not respond to you according to your expectations we feel disappointment, hurt, anger or rejection.  Let’s cover an example:  You expect your girlfriend to show up to help you with the party but she is not an organized, timely person.  You expect your husband to understand you need him to listen not offer advice.  You expect your parents to shower you with hugs and kisses but that was not what they witnessed as children.

Let us cut some slack to those around us. Do not be upset when our girlfriend, husband, children, spouse or others do not respond they way we expect.
Everyone is different and you do not know what is going on in each individual’s life.   Be the friend.   Stop today and ask yourself can you really love the people in your life where they are?

Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.”

John 13:34  “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

Romans 12:9-14
